Stats
Bio
Recruited from the country town of Kingston in the Creswick district, Gus Leishman was a diminutive rover and forward pocket who joined Geelong during one of the club's most successful eras. Standing just 173cm, he was a nippy ball-winner who made his debut midway through the 1932 season, forcing his way into a lineup that was fresh off the 1931 premiership. While he managed to hit the scoreboard with reasonable frequency—kicking 14 goals in his 27 appearances—Leishman found himself battling for a permanent spot in a star-studded midfield that included club legends like Reg Hickey and George Moloney. He played sporadically over three seasons, often filling in during the home-and-away rounds but ultimately missing selection for the club's finals campaigns in both 1932 and 1933. His VFL career concluded early in the 1934 season, leaving him as a serviceable depth player who contributed during a golden period for the Cats before departing Corio Oval.
