Recruited from Claremont, Guy McKenna established himself as the composed architect of the West Coast Eagles' formidable defence during the club's golden era in the 1990s. While his long-time defensive partner John Worsfold provided the physical intimidation, the man affectionately known as "Bluey" offered the polish, operating as a rebounding half-back with elite vision and precise foot skills. His ability to read the play and intercept opposition attacks made him one of the most reliable defenders of his generation, earning him four All-Australian selections and two Club Champion awards.

A dual premiership player in 1992 and 1994, McKenna was integral to the Eagles' rise as a national powerhouse. He eventually succeeded Worsfold as club captain in 1999, leading the side for two seasons before his retirement. By the time he hung up the boots, he had become the first West Coast player to reach the 200 and 250-game milestones, departing as the club's games record holder and an undisputed legend of Western Australian football.
