Bio
Originally selected with pick 9 in the 2002 National Draft from the Murray Bushrangers, Hamish McIntosh developed into a mobile and skilled ruckman for North Melbourne. Noted for his ability to accumulate possessions around the ground and drift forward to kick goals, McIntosh enjoyed his peak years between 2007 and 2010, earning selection in the All-Australian squad of 40. However, despite his strong form, the emergence of Todd Goldstein created a structural dilemma for the Kangaroos, who eventually struggled to fit two genuine ruckmen into the same lineup as the game evolved towards greater speed and pressure.
Seeking to reclaim a sole ruck role, McIntosh was traded to Geelong ahead of the 2013 season, with the Cats hoping he would fill the void left by premiership ruckman Brad Ottens. Unfortunately, his tenure at Kardinia Park was decimated by chronic injuries, including significant knee and Achilles problems that forced him to miss his entire first season in the hoops. While he managed to return for a string of games in 2014, his body could not sustain the rigours of AFL football, leading to his retirement in 2015 as a player whose significant talent was often overshadowed by injury and structural timing.
