Bio
Hailing from Heathcote and recruited via Melbourne High School, Harold Bennett was a reliable tall utility who broke into the VFL with University. He was a rare constant for the Students during the 1911 season, missing only one game, but the amateur club's inability to retain talent saw him prioritize his studies and move to the country the following year. Bennett became a standout player for Rochester in the Goulburn Valley, displaying form strong enough to earn a recall to the big league with South Melbourne (recorded as Sydney in some databases) in 1914. His return to the VFL was fleeting, lasting just seven games in the red and white before he departed the city again, returning to Rochester mid-season to help the country side secure a premiership.
