Arriving at St Kilda in 1953, Harold Davies established himself as a key defender during a challenging era for the club. Stationed primarily at full-back, he was renowned for his booming left-foot drop kick, a weapon that allowed him to launch kick-ins that frequently cleared the centre of the ground to the amazement of the crowd. While the Saints struggled near the bottom of the ladder throughout his seven-season career, Davies remained a constant in a defence that was often under siege. His time at the Junction Oval is best encapsulated by the 1957 "Lakeside Premiership" victory over South Melbourne, where he was famously photographed celebrating the rare win alongside future club legends Allan Jeans and Brian Gleeson.
