Bio
Recruited from Collingwood Tech, Harold Shillinglaw was a talented centreman who grew up in Fitzroy and represented his local club in the immediate post-war era. Making his debut as a teenager in 1945, he quickly established himself as a key component of the Maroons' midfield, renowned for his skill and athletic ability. However, his promising career was severely hampered by chronic ankle injuries which required multiple surgeries, eventually forcing his premature retirement at just 24 years of age. A gifted all-round sportsman, Shillinglaw also played first-class cricket for Victoria as a medium-pace bowler and later maintained his connection to the game as a football writer for The Argus.
