Bio
A tall ruckman originally from Saddleworth in South Australia’s Mid North, Harold Zucker established himself as a key player for Sturt in the SANFL before the Second World War interrupted his career. Like many interstate footballers of the era, his brief tenure at Hawthorn came about due to military service; while stationed in Victoria with the AIF in 1942, he managed three senior appearances for the Mayblooms. Standing 191cm—a significant height for the 1940s—Zucker was a mobile follower capable of resting forward to great effect, averaging a goal a game during his short VFL stint. He returned to Sturt after the war but tragically died in 1947 at just 29 years of age due to illness, leaving him remembered as one of the unsettled talents of the wartime era.
