Bio
Recruited from Norwood with pick 37 in the 2017 National Draft, Harrison Petty developed patiently before becoming a lynchpin of the Melbourne defence. While he initially served as depth, he seized his opportunity to become the third tall in a dominant backline alongside Steven May and Jake Lever, culminating in a premiership medallion in 2021. His courage in the air and ability to peel off his opponent to intercept made him a vital, if often understated, component of the Demons' success during this golden era.
In the years following the flag, Petty's role evolved significantly as the club sought to utilise his contested marking power in the forward half to address scoring struggles. This transition saw him swing between defence and attack, contributing nearly 50 career goals but often sacrificing his continuity as a settled defender. His later seasons were also punctuated by intense speculation regarding a return to South Australia, though Melbourne consistently refused to trade him, citing his structural importance. By the time he passed the 100-game milestone, Petty remained a respected figure at the Demons, valued for his selflessness and capacity to impact the contest at either end of the ground.
