Bio
Recruited from North Melbourne Juniors, Harry Alessio was a gritty half-forward and rover who etched his name into Tigerland folklore with a stunning finals debut. The son of a former North Melbourne player, Alessio was known for his two-footed skills, reliability, and sheer persistence around the contest. His defining moment came in 1916 during Richmond’s first-ever VFL final against Carlton, where he was widely judged best on ground after booting four goals in a masterful display. Despite showing promise as a potent avenue to goal—including a five-goal haul against Essendon in his rookie season—he played just 38 games for the Tigers during the interrupted war years. Alessio departed Punt Road after the 1919 season and later carved out a successful career in the VFA, featuring in Brunswick’s 1925 premiership side before finishing his playing days in Gippsland.
