Recruited from VFA side West Melbourne, Harry Farnsworth was a handy forward who made his VFL debut for Essendon in the opening round of the 1908 season. He established himself as a regular contributor at East Melbourne, booting 16 goals across 24 games as the Same Olds remained a competitive force near the top of the ladder. In 1910, Farnsworth crossed to the Junction Oval to join St Kilda, where he linked up with club regular Bill Farnsworth. However, he struggled to cement a spot in the Saints' senior lineup, managing just a solitary appearance—in which he kicked a goal—before his VFL career came to a close. He eventually moved interstate to continue his football journey, playing a brief tenure with Sturt in the SANFL in 1911.
