Bio
A local recruit born in South Melbourne, Harry Maynard’s senior career was a fleeting cameo curtailed by the Great War. The 175cm player broke into the Richmond lineup late in the 1914 season, debuting in Round 17 and holding his spot for the final match of the home-and-away year as the Tigers prepared for a finals campaign. However, his footballing ambitions were swiftly replaced by military duty; Maynard enlisted to serve with the 29th Battalion, spending his prime athletic years on the battlefields of Europe rather than the ovals of Melbourne. He returned to Punt Road after the armistice and featured for the reserves in 1919 and 1921, but the lengthy interruption proved too great for him to reclaim a spot in the senior 22, leaving his legacy as one of the club's many "what if" stories from the war era.
