Bio
Recruited from Carnegie, Harry New served a long apprenticeship before breaking into the Melbourne senior lineup during the Second World War. First training with the club in the 1941 pre-season, he played in the seconds in 1943 before finally making his debut in Round 18, 1944 against Hawthorn. He managed just one senior appearance in each of his two seasons, playing as a depth player during a period when the Demons were displaced from the MCG due to military occupation. Unable to cement a regular spot in the side, he departed in 1946 to join VFA club Brighton and later continued his career in country Victoria with Warrnambool.
