Bio
Recruited from amateur side Collegians, Harry Prout holds a unique place in VFL history as the first player to make his league debut in a Grand Final. The former Wesley College captain was a shock selection for the 1908 decider against Carlton, starting on a half-forward flank in a high-pressure initiation that the press dubbed "the college experiment." Prout quickly proved he belonged at the level, utilizing his diminutive stature and blistering pace to serve as a dangerous goal-kicking option, most notably booting five majors against Geelong in 1909 despite battling a collarbone injury earlier that year. While he was a regular contributor across three seasons, his VFL career ended prematurely following a 1911 incident where he was charged and subsequently acquitted of involvement in a fatal brawl, prompting a move to Sydney where he continued his football in the local leagues.
