Recruited from Toora in South Gippsland, Harry Skreja was a precocious talent who holds the distinction of debuting in the VFL as a 16-year-old schoolboy. He was thrust into senior football against South Melbourne in Round 7, 1969, playing as a mobile forward capable of hitting the scoreboard. Despite this prodigious start, Skreja's time at the Western Oval was fleeting, and he departed the league after just three seasons while still a teenager. He subsequently carved out a formidable reputation in country and VFA football, transitioning into a prolific goal-kicking captain-coach who led Yarram to a premiership and topped goalkicking tables in the Ovens & Murray and Alberton leagues with massive season tallies.
