Recruited from Warragul in country Victoria, Harry Weidner was an elusive, left-footed half-forward flanker who became a reliable avenue to goal during a bittersweet era for the Tigers. A lightly-built but pacy operator, he possessed an uncanny goal sense, booting at least 25 majors in four consecutive seasons and earning Victorian state selection in 1928. Weidner was a central figure in the powerful Richmond side that suffered the agony of three consecutive Grand Final defeats from 1927 to 1929, kicking multiple goals in two of those deciders. His career ended on a cruel note of personal misfortune; after years of toiling for a flag, he suffered a severe knee injury against Collingwood in Round 10 of the 1932 season. The injury forced him into premature retirement at just 25 years of age, leaving him to watch on from the sidelines as his teammates finally broke the club's premiership drought just months later.
