Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 12 in the 1996 National Draft, Heath Black quickly established himself at Fremantle as a classy midfielder possessed of a damaging, penetrating left boot. After five seasons in the west, he was traded to St Kilda in 2002, where he spent three years adding polish to the Saints' lineup before negotiating a return to the Dockers ahead of the 2005 season.
His second stint at Fremantle proved highly productive, as he reinvented himself as a rebounding half-back flanker whose precise delivery was vital to the club's transition play. This form saw him finish runner-up in the Doig Medal in his first year back and play a key role in the team's surge to the 2006 preliminary final. While his career was occasionally impacted by off-field struggles, Black retired in 2008 recognized as a naturally gifted ball-winner who provided genuine drive and skill across nearly 200 senior games.
