Bio
Recruited from the metropolitan amateur ranks where he represented South St Kilda and South Yarra, Henry Howson was a diminutive footballer standing just 171cm. He earned a call-up to the South Melbourne senior side late in the 1899 season, making his debut in a Round 12 fixture against Fitzroy. Howson retained his place for the following week's match against Collingwood at Victoria Park, but was unable to impact the scoreboard or cement a permanent role in the team. His VFL tenure remained limited to that brief two-game stint before his departure from the league's top flight.
