Bio
A product of the Collingwood Juniors who originally hailed from local side Blenheim, Henry "Harry" Newbound was a dual-sport athlete whose VFL career began with a single appearance for the Magpies in Round 1, 1902. After struggling to adjust to the pace of senior football in the centre, he was omitted and returned to the junior ranks, where a stellar 1903 season eventually earned him a lifeline with Carlton. Newbound played the bulk of his career with the Blues, adding 18 games over two seasons as a serviceable follower and forward, though he largely remained on the fringe of selection. While his football tenure was brief, he carved out a unique place in Australian sporting history after his retirement, famously representing Victoria in baseball against the touring Chicago White Sox and New York Giants at the MCG in 1914.
