Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide with pick 46 in the 2004 National Draft, Henry Slattery carved out a niche as a disciplined small defender and run-with player during a transitional era for Essendon. While rarely a high-possession winner, Slattery was valued by coaches for his defensive accountability and ability to nullify dangerous opposition small forwards, playing his best football as a regular fixture in the back pocket between 2007 and 2011. He struggled to maintain his place in the senior side during the 2012 season and was subsequently delisted, falling just short of the 100-game milestone. Following his AFL career, he returned to South Australia to captain the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL, though his time at Essendon is permanently linked to the club's supplements saga, which saw him serve a 12-month suspension in 2016 alongside 33 former teammates.
