Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from the local St Kilda Trades club, Herb Baker made a remarkably late entry into VFL football, debuting at the age of 31 during the Saints' disastrous 1910 campaign. Brought in to plug holes in a side destined for a winless season, he started his brief career promisingly as a forward, booting a goal in his first match against Melbourne at the MCG and adding another against Essendon a week later. Despite hitting the scoreboard in two of his three appearances, his tenure at the top level was short-lived, with his VFL journey concluding after a solitary month of football. He remains a curiosity in St Kilda history as an older rookie who earned a fleeting opportunity during one of the club's leanest on-field periods.
