Stats
Bio
Recruited from Tallangatta in north-east Victoria, Herb Bruton was a country footballer who received a brief opportunity at the elite level with South Melbourne. He came down to the city for the 1904 VFL season but found it difficult to break into a competitive lineup that would eventually reach the Grand Final just a few years later. Bruton managed only two senior appearances without troubling the scorers before his tenure at Lake Oval came to a close. Following his short stint in the metropolitan league, he returned to the bush where he remained a fixture in the local football scene, notably serving as a central umpire in the Tallangatta district leagues well after his playing days concluded.
