Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Essendon VFA side, Bert Cheffers was a tall follower who provided a strong aerial target during the dead-ball era. Standing 183cm—a significant height for the early 1900s—he made an immediate impression at Victoria Park, booting two goals on debut against Fitzroy and following up with another double against St Kilda the following week. Despite this promising start as a goal-kicking big man, Cheffers could not retain his position in a dominant Magpies outfit that went on to contest the 1907 Grand Final. He played the first seven rounds of the season consecutively before dropping out of the senior side, ending his VFL career as a brief but effective cameo.
