Bio
A local product who originally featured for Richmond in the VFA, Herbert "Bucky" Hill briefly crossed to Melbourne in 1907 to test himself in the VFL before returning to Punt Road for the Tigers' inaugural league season in 1908. Operating primarily through the centre, he carved out a unique place in history as the first Richmond player to be suspended in the VFL, receiving a two-match ban for striking former teammate Wally Sykes during a clash against his old side. His tenure at the top level ended abruptly and controversially in 1909 when he was dismissed by the club for failing to notify officials of his unavailability for a match, subsequently continuing his career with Port Melbourne in the VFA.
