Recruited from Claremont via the 2004 Rookie Draft, Lumumba—known for the majority of his career as Harry O'Brien—became the first Brazilian-born player in the AFL and a key architect of Collingwood's defensive setup under Mick Malthouse. A dashing half-back flanker renowned for his willingness to take the game on, his ability to break lines and intercept opposition attacks culminated in All-Australian selection during the Magpies' 2010 premiership season.

After 199 games in black and white, a breakdown in his relationship with club leadership saw him traded to Melbourne ahead of the 2015 season in a three-way deal. He brought veteran experience to a developing Demons side, but his tenure was cut short by persistent concussion symptoms that ultimately forced his retirement. While his 223-game career was marked by his athletic rebounding style, his historical significance is equally defined by his outspoken stance on racism and club culture, which later precipitated independent reviews into the Collingwood Football Club.
