Bio
Recruited from Albury Federals on the New South Wales border, Francis 'Hope' Evans arrived at Princes Park during the turbulent 1925 season, a year that saw Carlton churn through three different senior coaches. A versatile utility, Evans was immediately thrown into the fire to plug gaps across the ground, debuting in a forward pocket against Essendon before rotating through the centre and eventually finishing his short tenure in the back pocket. His seven-game career was historically notable for including appearances in the Blues' first-ever VFL matches against newly admitted clubs Hawthorn and North Melbourne. While his time in the navy blue was fleeting, his legacy was revived a century later when his great-nephew, small forward Francis Evans, joined the club in 2025.
