Bio
Horrie Jenkin was one of the most physically imposing figures of the early 20th century VFL, renowned for a playing weight that often exceeded 100 kilograms. Making his debut in the tumultuous 1916 season, Jenkin immediately tasted ultimate success as part of the Fitzroy side that uniquely won both the wooden spoon and the premiership in the same year. While he lacked agility, he utilised his immense frame as an immovable ruckman and defender, famously using his bulk to shield teammates and clear paths in congested play, earning a reputation as a fierce protector of the Maroons' smaller rovers.
A loyal one-club player, Jenkin was a cornerstone of Fitzroy's success during their golden era, securing a second premiership in 1922 against Collingwood. His standing within the group was reflected in his appointment as club captain for his final three seasons from 1926 to 1928. Despite constant external commentary regarding his size, his longevity and durability were testament to his on-field effectiveness, and he retired as a revered figure at Brunswick Street after 13 seasons of service.
