Bio
Reginald "Horrie" Lyons was a St Kilda local whose football journey bridged the gap between the VFA and the newly formed VFL. After establishing himself with South Melbourne in the VFA, he featured in the club's inaugural VFL campaign in 1897, contributing two goals from his five appearances. He crossed to his native St Kilda the following year, returning to the district where he had originally played for the South St Kilda juniors. A capable forward who could rotate through the flanks, Lyons managed to hit the scoreboard for both his clubs in an era often defined by defensive congestion and low scores. His time at the elite level was brief, concluding after just ten matches, but he holds a unique place in history as one of the few players to represent two foundation clubs within the league's first two seasons before continuing his career in the VFA.
