Bio
Recruited from Rushworth in the Goulburn Valley, Howard Hawking was a tall defender who joined Geelong in the mid-1950s. He made his debut in 1954 and played 11 senior games across two seasons, often serving as a reliable backman but finding it difficult to secure a permanent place in a strong lineup. While his senior opportunities were limited, Hawking was a standout performer in the lower grades, capping off his time at Kardinia Park by winning the Reserves Best and Fairest in 1956 and finishing runner-up in the league-wide Reserves vote. Following his VFL stint, he returned to country football and forged a distinguished career as a captain-coach, eventually being named in the Goulburn Valley Football League Team of the Century.
