Bio
Recruited from Berwick where he had previously served as captain, Howard Richardson was a gifted dual sportsman who made his mark as a half-forward flanker during the VFL's war years. He played three seasons for Richmond between 1915 and 1917, showing promise as a rotation forward who could hit the scoreboard, before crossing to the VFA to join Prahran when that competition resumed in 1918. Richardson returned to the top flight for a solitary appearance with Melbourne in 1919, but he is perhaps best remembered for his prowess on the cricket pitch rather than the football field; he became a distinguished district cricketer for both Richmond and Essendon and eventually represented Victoria at first-class level, famously taking four wickets in an innings against Tasmania.
