Bio
Recruited from Horsham in the Wimmera, Howard Staehr was a tall ruckman who faced difficulty breaking into the Essendon senior side during the mid-1970s. Arriving at Windy Hill from the club's country zone, he made his debut in Round 6, 1974 against Collingwood. However, with the ruck division dominated by Graham Moss, Staehr found senior opportunities scarce, managing just five games across three seasons. He played three matches in his debut year and two in 1976, spending the entirety of 1975 in the reserves before eventually departing the VFL.
