Bio
Hailing from Wedderburn and educated at Wesley College, Howard Stafford was a promising talent who played a brief role in University's final VFL season. He represented the "Students" in five games during the 1914 campaign, kicking two goals just before the club withdrew from the league due to the onset of the Great War. Stafford's football career was effectively ended by his military service, during which he distinguished himself on the Western Front and was awarded the Military Medal in 1917. He never returned to VFL level and tragically died in Burma during the Second World War, leaving a legacy defined more by his service and sacrifice than his short stint at the top level.
