Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers in the rookie draft, Hugh Beasley joined the Brisbane Lions as a developing key defender tasked with bolstering a backline under significant pressure. A strong-bodied backman who prioritised containment and spoiling over rebound, Beasley worked his way into the senior side to cover injuries, earning opportunities to man opposition key forwards during the club’s difficult rebuilding period under Justin Leppitsch. Despite showing promise as a disciplined stopper, he found himself squeezed out of the squad after two seasons, eventually delisted as the Lions reshuffled their defensive stocks. He subsequently proved his footballing character in the state leagues, emerging as a premiership-winning leader and reliable defensive pillar for Richmond’s VFL side.
