Bio
Recruited from Port Melbourne in the VFA, Hugh Fitzpatrick established himself as a durable key forward during Essendon's formative VFL years. He made an immediate impression upon his arrival, playing every match in his debut 1899 season and finishing as the club's equal-second leading goalkicker. Capable of playing at both full-forward and centre half-forward, he served as a reliable avenue to goal during a competitive era for the Same Olds. His time in Victoria was ultimately brief due to off-field factors; he relocated to Western Australia for employment in 1901, where he forged a successful second phase of his career with Subiaco and eventually earned selection for the Western Australian state team.
