Bio
Recruited from the dairy farming town of Cobden in the Hampden Football League, Hugh Worrall arrived at Fitzroy as a teenager in the late 1960s. A lightly framed but skilled operator, he was primarily utilised as a back pocket defender during his two seasons at the Junction Oval, managing 13 senior appearances while the Lions struggled near the foot of the ladder. Despite showing promise at VFL level, Worrall’s greatest impact came after he returned home to the country; he became a genuine legend of the Hampden League, winning the prestigious Maskell Medal as the competition's best and fairest player on three separate occasions (1970, 1972, and 1979) and cementing his status as one of the region's finest ever footballers.
