Bio
Recruited from Miga Lake in western Victoria, Ian Anderson was a versatile tall capable of playing in the ruck or as a key forward. After graduating from the under-19s, he demonstrated his significant potential in the opening round of 1968 when, acting as a late replacement for Neil Evans, he booted a career-best seven goals in a victory over Hawthorn. However, his VFL momentum was halted by national service, with Anderson conscripted into the Army and serving in the Vietnam War, which forced him to miss the entire 1969 and 1970 seasons. He returned to Windy Hill for a handful of games in 1971 before crossing the Nullarbor to join West Perth, where he re-established himself and earned state selection for Western Australia.
