Ian Bremner

Recruited to Collingwood, Ian Bremner struggled to break into the Magpies' senior lineup, registering just a single game in 1966 before crossing to Hawthorn. This transfer proved pivotal, as he quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the Hawks' defence during the club's golden era under John Kennedy Snr. Operating primarily as a back pocket, Bremner was renowned as a rugged, no-nonsense defender who combined physical resilience with reliable marking ability, perfectly embodying the disciplined, hard-at-it style of the Hawks' 1970s sides.

Bremner's decade-long tenure at Glenferrie Oval was defined by team success and defensive consistency. He played an instrumental role in the club's 1971 premiership triumph, often tasked with shutting down dangerous opposition small forwards. He remained a fixture in the backline through the mid-70s and enjoyed the perfect conclusion to his career in 1976. In his final senior appearance, Bremner helped Hawthorn defeat North Melbourne in the Grand Final, retiring as a dual premiership player and a highly respected figure in the club's history.
