Stats
Bio
Recruited from Maryborough in the Ballarat region, Ian McCann was a tall half-forward who joined Hawthorn in 1953 after the Hawks won a recruitment battle against two other league clubs. Standing 184cm, he possessed the height to play as a key position target, yet he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side, playing just 12 games over three seasons. His time at Glenferrie Oval coincided with his National Service obligations, requiring him to balance his football with duties as an Army conscript. After his VFL career concluded, he moved into coaching with Commonwealth Bank in the amateur leagues.
