Bio
Recruited from Essex Heights in the club’s Mount Waverley zone, Ian Miles was a highly decorated junior prospect who captained the Tigers' fourths and was named best afield in the Under-19s' 1970 premiership victory. A skilful six-foot wingman and half-back, he faced the unenviable task of breaking into Tom Hafey’s powerhouse lineup during the club’s golden era, often finding himself stuck behind established stars despite strong form in the seconds. Miles made his senior debut as the youngest player in the side late in 1971 but was restricted to just four career games—all starting on the interchange bench—before transferring to Waverley in the VFA midway through 1973 in search of greater opportunity.
