Bio
Recruited from Wangaratta in the Ovens and Murray League, Ian Nicoll was a busy left-footed rover and forward pocket who played a serviceable role during a powerful era for the Blues. Hailing from a prominent sporting family in Whorouly, Nicoll broke into the senior lineup in 1967 but is perhaps best remembered for a distinct case of bad luck during the 1968 finals campaign. He was called up to replace the injured Dennis Munari for the Second Semi-Final against Essendon, acquitting himself well on the big stage, only to be heartbroken when Munari proved his fitness for the Grand Final, forcing Nicoll out of the premiership side. He eventually secured his spot for the 1969 Grand Final, sharing roving duties with Adrian Gallagher in the loss to Richmond, before leaving Princes Park at the end of 1970 to continue his career with Preston in the VFA.
