Bio
Recruited from Preston, Ian 'Chops' Rickman was a solidly built forward who found it difficult to break into the senior side consistently at Footscray during the early 1980s. While he spent the majority of his time fighting for a spot in the reserves, he is remembered fondly for a singular, explosive performance in 1984 during the final VFL match ever played at Arden Street. Recalled to the seniors by coach Mick Malthouse, Rickman booted a career-high six goals to sink North Melbourne, a standout display that accounted for more than half his career goal tally. He was unable to maintain a spot in the best 22 following that breakout game and eventually moved to the VFA, where he became a premiership player and prolific goalkicker for Williamstown.
