Bio
Originally a local junior who progressed through the Essendon Under 19s and Reserves, Ian Stevenson took a circuitous route to his VFL senior debut. Unable to initially break into the Bombers' senior lineup, the towering ruckman moved away to develop his craft, building a formidable reputation with North Ballarat and Tasmanian club East Devonport, where his form was strong enough to earn state selection for the Apple Isle. Essendon eventually lured the 193cm mature-age recruit back across the Bass Strait in 1969 to bolster their ruck stocks. Stevenson provided a physical presence and much-needed depth for the Bombers' follower division across two seasons, eventually returning to North Ballarat and later Kingsville after his brief stint at the top level concluded in mid-1970.
