Bio
A product of East Perth in the WAFL, Thomson was a versatile key position talent who almost joined Fitzroy before a last-minute intervention saw him sign with South Melbourne for the 1973 season. He quickly established himself at the Lakeside Oval as a commanding centre half-back, renowned for his ability to take strong contested marks and intercept opposition attacks. Thomson was equally capable at the other end of the ground, often swinging forward to provide a focal point, highlighted by a six-goal haul against St Kilda in 1976. After returning to Western Australia, he enjoyed a decorated finish to his career with East Fremantle, where he played in the 1979 premiership side and won the club's leading goalkicker award in 1981.
