Bio
Ian Thomson is a competitive key forward and ruck prospect hailing from Katherine in the Northern Territory. Developing his craft in both the NT and South Australia, Thomson split his draft year between the Northern Territory Academy and Glenelg. He showcased his development across multiple competitions, featuring as a standout for Team Heat in the NTFL Futures match before putting together a premiership campaign in South Australia. Thomson contributed to Glenelg's Under 18 Grand Final victory, where his physicality and ruck relief proved vital.
As a towering target, Thomson plays with presence and provides a strong focal point both deep inside 50 and pushing up the flank. Scouts note his clean hands, robust frame, and ability to use bodywork effectively in one-on-one aerial contests. When rotating through the ruck, he competes fiercely and gives starting ruckmen a reliable chop-out. Thomson is deceptively nimble at ground level and brings strong tackling pressure for a tall forward. Observers note that his foot skills can waver under pressure, but his mobility and aggression make him a promising developmental tall for AFL clubs to consider.
