Bio
Recruited from Geelong Grammar School, Ian Toyne broke into the Geelong senior side as an 18-year-old, establishing himself as a defensive regular during the club's post-war reconstruction. Standing 175cm, he played 38 games for the Cats between 1948 and 1950, serving as a consistent backline option as the team built toward its golden era. His departure from Kardinia Park proved ill-timed, as he left the club just one season prior to their 1951 premiership triumph. After spending a year out of the VFL, Toyne attempted a comeback with Melbourne in 1952 but managed only a single senior appearance in the number 29 guernsey before his career at the elite level ended.
