Bio
Hailing from Swan Districts in the WAFL, Ian Williams arrived at the Western Oval as a mature-age recruit after a complicated transfer saga that delayed his VFL debut. A dangerous small forward with a sharp eye for goal, he made an immediate impact in his first season in 1983, finishing as the club's third-highest goalkicker behind Simon Beasley and Jim Edmond. Williams is best remembered by the Footscray faithful for a clutch performance against St Kilda that year, where he booted the match-winning goal in the dying minutes, shortly after bagging a career-high five goals against Fitzroy. Despite this promising start, his time at the elite level was brief, managing just 16 more appearances over the next two seasons before his VFL career concluded.
