Bio
Selected by Footscray with the second overall pick in the 1991 National Draft, Ilija Grgic was a mobile ruckman and key forward known for his strong overhead marking and reliable set shot. He quickly became a valuable structural asset for the Bulldogs, consistently drifting forward to maintain a better than one-goal-per-game average during his four seasons at the Western Oval. In a high-profile move, he was traded to West Coast ahead of the 1997 season, tasked with bolstering the Eagles' ruck division, but struggled to capture his best form in Perth. Grgic was thrown a lifeline by Essendon in 1999, yet his time at Windy Hill was fleeting; chronic back injuries restricted him to just two senior appearances for the Bombers, forcing him to retire at 27.
