Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Clifton Stars, Ivan Clues arrived at Collingwood in 1950 as part of a significant intake of players that included future club legends Thorold Merrett and Frank Tuck. A big, bustling utility capable of playing as a follower or in defence, he spent his first season developing in the reserves before earning his senior opportunity midway through 1951. Clues was elevated to the senior list to replace the injured Bill Tebble, making his debut in a Round 12 clash against North Melbourne where he was tasked with supporting the ruck division. Despite possessing a strong frame and impressing officials with his consistency at the lower level, he lacked the mobility required to hold a permanent spot in the VFL and played just two senior matches. Clues subsequently crossed to the VFA, where he found his level and enjoyed a fine career with Brunswick, playing over 80 games before a final stint with Port Melbourne.
