Bio
Recruited from VFA club Prahran, Harry Smith was a fringe player who joined Fitzroy midway through the 1915 season to fill a vacancy in the senior list. The Bendigo-born utility showed early promise upon debut but struggled to adapt to the handling requirements of League football, finding it difficult to maintain a consistent spot in the side in wet conditions. He remained on the list during the club's extraordinary 1916 war-time campaign—where the Roys famously won the premiership despite finishing last on the ladder—but he could not crack the hardened finals lineup to taste ultimate success. Smith eventually departed Brunswick Street without scoring a goal, later resurfacing for a brief stint with Geelong in the 1920s where he finally booted the only two majors of his nine-game career.
