Bio
Recruited from St Paul's in Ascot Vale, Jack "Tich" Allister was a diminutive rover and half-forward who overcame a false start to his league career to become a standout player for North Melbourne during the Second World War. After managing only a solitary senior appearance for Essendon in 1938, Allister spent two seasons honing his craft with Sandringham in the VFA before returning to the VFL with the Shinboners in 1941. Standing just 173cm, he relied on pace and goal sense to impact the scoreboard, a skill set that peaked during the 1942 season when he booted 29 goals and won the club's Best and Fairest award. A consistent contributor at Arden Street who played his final game in 1945, Allister's career and life were tragically cut short when he died of pneumonia in early 1946 at the age of 27.
