Bio
Recruited from VFA outfit Northcote, Jack Benson was a solid defender who made a brief contribution to the Collingwood backline in the early 1920s. Born in Warrnambool, he earned his debut in Round 2, 1923, utilizing a robust frame to quell opposition attacks and clear the ball from the defensive 50. He managed five games in each of his two seasons at Victoria Park, operating largely as a depth player who filled gaps in the rotation but struggled to lock down a permanent spot in a competitive side. While his time at the elite level was fleeting, concluding midway through the 1924 season, Benson balanced his short footballing stint with the beginning of a distinguished 47-year tenure as a master at Ivanhoe Grammar School.
